About Me

I began writing stories when I was a child, and while I was a Boy Scout, I founded and edited a magazine for my troop.

I began my teaching career in Hertfordshire in the school where I was to meet my future wife. It was also at this time that I earned my first money from writing.

Following a post-grad year at Sussex University, I spent just over 20 years as Head of a primary school in Cambridgeshire. During that time I continued to write for a number of publications and had several books published.

Following early retirement my wife and I established our own pre-prep school that we ran for 13 years before retiring for second time. An account of these 13 years, entitled A Rather Strange Retirement, was published in February 2014.

For many years  I was a regular contributor to the various publications of Croner, writing extensively on educational topics and issues relating to health and safety. Latterly I was Associate Editor of the Croner-i Educational website, updating online topics and contributing as a feature writer.

Military history, local history, environmental issues and travel are all part of my writing portfolio.

Three of my military history books were published more than ten years ago and are now out of print. RAF Duxford was published in 2012, Douglas Bader was published in  2014, and East Anglia at War was published in 2015.

A new edition of East Anglia at War has now been published, having been substantially revised, with many new pictures. A fully revised edition of the Douglas Bader book, concentrating on his somewhat complex life, will be published shortly.

Other publications include teaching material for Key Stage 2 and FE, plus an account of three years of running our own pre-prep school.

Journalism continues. My research skills are good and I am usually able to write authoritatively on most topics. I always take great pride in writing to an agreed length and  deadlines are always met.
