Freelance Feature Writer, Journalist and Author
I am the author of more than 10 books, and many magazine articles and reviews, plus regular content for online newspapers. For more than 25 years I was a regular contributor to the various educational support publications of Croner and for the final three years was consultant editor and regular contributor to the Croner-i educational website, writing monthly features and updating online topics.
My books have included military history in addition to educational topics. My most recent books are a full revision of my successful East Anglia at War, published in July 2025 and The Complex Life of Douglas Bader published in August 2025. I also have a novel that is due to be published shortly.
I am a council member of the Chartered Institute of Journalists., and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Writer
I am an experienced freelance writer specialising in:
- Education - the curriculum, school management, interpretation of DfE guidance etc.
- Health and Safety - with particular reference to education, home and industry.
- Issues concerning The Environment
- Travel - particularly within the UK and Europe.
- Military History - particularly post 1920.
- Local History.
That said, my research skills are good and I am willing to tackle areas outside the range of those listed above.
Educator
I was a primary school head teacher for more than 20 years. Following early retirement, I spent a 3-month placement in a Bulgarian English language school on behalf of British Executive Services Overseas, (now part of VSO). By then my wife had also taken early retirement, and we established a small independent pre-preparatory school. After 13 successful years we were approached by one of the Cambridge Educational Foundations that wished to purchase the school as a going concern. We then both retired for a second time.
