About Me

I began writing stories when I was a child, and while I was a Boy Scout, I founded and edited a magazine for my troop.

I began my teaching career in Hertfordshire in the school where I was to meet my future wife. It was also at this time that I earned my first money from writing.

Following a post-grad year at Sussex University, I spent just over 20 years as Head of a primary school in Cambridgeshire. During that time I continued to write for a number of publications and had several books published.

Following early retirement my wife and I established our own pre-prep school that we ran for 13 years before retiring for second time. An account of these 13 years, entitled A Rather Strange Retirement, was published in February 2014.

Since 2001 I have been a regular contributor to various publications of Croner Educational writing extensively on educational topics and issues relating to health and safety. I am Associate Editor of the Croner-i website, where I regularly update online topics and contribute as a feature writer.

Military history, environmental issues and travel are all part of my writing portfolio.

Four of my  books were published by Bretwalda; two in its Heroes of the RAF series: RAF Duxford, published in 2012  and Douglas Bader, published in October 2014, plus A Rather Strange Retirement also in 2014. East Anglia at War, also for Bretwalda, was published in May 2015 and was commended by the Cambridgeshire Association for Local History in its 2016 Local History Book Awards. My latest book, Key Stage 2 SATS Mathematics Practice Papers was published by Pearson in May 2016.

My research skills are good and I am usually able to write authoritatively on most topics. I always take great pride in writing to an agreed length and  deadlines are always met.
